Hello Heidi!

I thought the easiest way for me to present my video design work would be to create a web page you could look at that was separate from the rest of my site. I will label things, moving backwards through a few projects. From this point out the sections will be titled and then a description of the work will follow, and media if appropriate. I hope this gives you a feeling of my work. Thanks!

And, of course feel free to peruse my ridiculous youtube page.

THIS IS HOW WE DO IT

This Is How We Do It is a series of dialogues taking place from April 20th through 22nd. The event is a production of The Foundry Theatre. Here is the description of this fairly indescribable weekend:

"There are communities around the world that have stopped waiting for the systems around them to change. They are engaged in alternative practices right now - in economics, safety, media and communications, politics and more. With THIS IS HOW WE DO IT, Foundry Dialogues is bringing together many of the foremost innovators from around the globe - people who are redefining nothing less than how the world works."

For this project I am the Technical Director and Media Designer. We opened tonight in The Great Hall. Saturday and Sunday our events are in The Rose Auditorium.

The documentation for this event is in process but you can view much of it as it is created though live streaming and other documentation forms via the following hyperlinks:

More will be posted as the event continues.

The Orpheus Variations

I am currently working on a project for The Deconstructive Theatre Project at Magic Futurebox. For this project we are taking the Orpheus myth and rethinking it as an exploration of memory and the concept of objects. I am the video designer for the work. We are essentially creating a film in real time, combining source lighting, camera tricks, in camera effects, live processing and software, foley sound, and monologue. We are still in workshop mode but we have taken some pictures of the process. I have requested the images from the stage managers and hope to receive them soon. I will post them here as soon as I receive them.

I Love Dead Things

This project recently went up at Dixon Place. It was an original work for which I was the video designer. The story follows a mother and daughter as they reflect on their relationship to each other and to the men in their lives during wartime. Please see below 3 hyperlinks to youtube clips of the media. I have requested images or video of the performance itself and will post it as soon as I receive it.

Ourselves Talk

This original piece titled Ourselves Talk and was featured as a commissioned work at the Ammerman Center for Arts and Technology at Connecticut College. I wrote the text while my collaborator, Akio, composed the sound; together we collaborated on the video design and in the performance of the piece. The work focuses on a deteriorating relationship as both members become lost in their respective fantasies.

See below a few photos of the performance, which involved sound and midi responsive unmasking of video that I created and a live feed combined with a recorded video of a girl talking that imitated speech in real time using a program I wrote that altered playback speed in synch with audio input.

In The Footprint

For this run of In The Footprint I reprogrammed video that had been designed by Jeanette Yew. I reformatted the media to fit The Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia.

Here are a couple images from the show:

How Much Is Enough

This performance, another production of The Foundry, was held at St. Ann's Warehouse. For this work I stepped in to assist Jeanette Yew. I did a good amount of redesign or certain elements during the weeks leading up to the opening. This show ran off 16 projectors: 14 mounted on the celling that mapped images onto cafe tables and two that projected images onto the North and South walls. It also featured live video.

Here are a few images from that show:

Acquainted: To Understand Is Not To Know

This original work was another collaboration with Akio. It took place at Grace Exhibition Space. The performance featured life video and several other forms of media that were projected as a light source or as backdrop. The action was also recorded and projected on a screen hung in a bar area of the gallery. Almost all elements of this performance were interactive. The video, sound, and even the spoken text changed based on the environment and the energy that each individual brought to the piece.

See video documentation of the work HERE.

Underworld

This event was a party fundraising for The Orpheus Variations with The Deconstructive Theatre Project. It took place at House of Yes. It was a simple design using one projector. The options are limited at House of Yes. I created a sound responsive program that amoved through images that were aesthetically combined through filtering and mixed with video of films such as Ben-Hur and Clash of the Titans.

Please see below an image of the event:

Subway: An Abstraction

This event took place in a tunnel underneath Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn. The evening was collaboratively created and included video, performance, interactive installation, music, and more. Please see below a couple images from that event:

I thought I should get some media to you ASAP. If you have any questions or with to see anything else please contact me via email at [email protected] or cell at 813.334.2481.
